A tech pack is the instruction manual for your product. It reduces sample rounds, makes quotations comparable, and gives everyone a shared reference if something goes wrong.
What to include
Drawings
Flat technical drawings of the front, back and sides, plus close-ups of details such as pockets, closures and edge finishes. Photos of a reference product are a useful supplement.
Measurements
A measurement chart with tolerances. For garments, a full size chart for every size; for bags and small goods, external and internal dimensions, strap lengths and pocket sizes.
Bill of materials
- Leather: type, grade, finish, thickness and colour
- Lining: fabric, colour, any print
- Hardware: zips (type and size), buckles, rivets, snaps, with finish
- Thread: colour and, if important, thickness
- Reinforcements and interlinings
Construction notes
Edge finishing (painted, burnished, folded), stitch type and stitches per inch, seam allowances and anything unusual.
Branding
Logo position, size and method (for example debossed, foil, embroidered, metal plate), with vector artwork. Include label artwork and placement.
Packaging and labelling
Hangtags, care labels, polybags, dust bags, boxes, barcodes and carton markings.
If you don't have a tech pack
Send what you have: photos of a product you like, sketches, notes on changes, your target quantity and price. A manufacturer can develop the sample from this — it usually just takes an extra round of questions.
Common gaps
- No tolerances on measurements
- Colour described in words only — send a physical swatch or a recognised colour reference
- Logo supplied as a low-resolution image
